Verizon to buy truck software group Fleetmatics for $2.4bn, as the US telecoms giant continues to execute its diversification strategy. The data generated by vehicles has significant latent value, beyond that of calculating insurance premiums and figuring out where your vans are. It will be fascinating to see what Verizon does with it and Telogis, acquired in June of this year.
